Fairytale of New York
Let
me tell you about that first night I spent in New York. We arrived late
in the afternoon to the most gorgeous fog. I had to hold myself back
from just leaving the car on some midtown avenue and running out into
the streets with my camera. We arrived at the hotel, parked the car, and
gulped down some sandwiches. There were only about 90 minutes left
before sunset, so we nearly ran to Central Park, which, thankfully, was
close to our hotel. [This is where I have to thank the partners of
photographers who have to put with this kind of thing when they kindly
agree to come along on these trips.]
New
York City, and particularly Central Park, is perfectly enchanting in
the fog. And as the evening progressed, it got more and more magical as
the sky turned from pale gray to a gorgeous pinky-purple. We stayed in
the park until after sunset and then ventured out into the streets for
some night photography and a well-deserved glass of wine. I felt so
contented that I would have been happy even if I didn't get to take
another photograph the remainder of our stay. But, of course, that
didn't happen ...
P.S. I'm having
trouble deciding on my favorite of the last two shots (the taxi cab
lights). If you prefer one over the other, let me know. It'll help me
decide which to make available as a print in my shops.
