Tim Flach: Top Dog

Cat lovers should avert their eyes now as this week will feature dogs in all of their awesome glory. For this post, the featured images are all taken by London-based photographer Tim Flach.

Mr. Flach is now known for his highly stylized images of domestic and wild animals. His first book on horses and their cousins entitled Equus rightly garnered him praised from all over the world. It's no surprise then that he has earned various awards and distinctions to his name.

All of the images featured in this post come from his latest book released late last year entitled Dogs Gods. As you can see from the different photos, Mr. Flach goes beyond the ordinary to show his viewers a different side to man's best friend.  Quite literally, you'll find images in the book that feature close-ups of the furry creatures, and there are even a few shots taken from underneath a glass floor.

The goal of these images is to provoke a different thought as to how people usually look at animals. With dogs in particular being one of the most familiar pets in almost all societies, it is curious to see how the species has developed into the different breeds alongside their human owners. Ultimately, Mr. Flach's curiosity of how people humanize images of dogs and animals as a whole makes for some very beautiful photographs.
